Healing your mind and body from trauma
Watch.
Think of trauma like a weed. It’s deep rooted with the power to grow rapidly and spread throughout both your mind and body.
If you don’t get control of the roots, you won’t be able to heal from the many effects that trauma can cause.
Whether you’re aware you’re continuing to suffer with the effects of trauma or not, this is a great episode where we dive into what trauma actually is, and how even the smallest of comments made to you as a young child can result in years of ongoing emotional and physical pain.
“So many of us struggle to build a healthy lifestyle, we feel like we’re caught in this spin cycle and there’s never enough time.”
— Nicola Mercer
“If you’re human you’ve probably had some sort of trauma in your past. You can do work to heal that trauma and to shift the things that are going on inside of you.”
—Ashlee Hoelck
This week we chat with guest expert Ashlee Hoelck about thriving after trauma. Ashlee is proof both the mental and physical symptoms that manifest in your mind and body after trauma can be managed, and she gives advice on how to get started on your own healing at home using free, simple tools and techniques.
In the episode we do chat about trauma from toxic relationships and the emotional suffering that many people endure from this type of trauma, as well as many other trauma types. Please consider this if it may be a trigger for you.
What’s great about this episode is that it raises how you might not even realise that some of what you’re struggling with in your life is because of even the smallest of traumas that you perhaps don’t remember ever happening to you.
As Ashlee shares when she talks about her favourite book - The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van Der Kolk - the body is often overlooked when managing the effects of trauma, yet it is a powerful machine that manifests the result of trauma through many different types of physical responses.
In this episode you’ll hear about:
The power of starting your morning solo when you’re a parent!
Understanding what trauma is and the different ways it can be affect you and your life.
How trauma can show up in mental and physical ways in your mind and body.
The hold trauma can continue to have after many years of trying to heal yourself.
Healing physical pain using mindset work.
Approaching recovery from trauma with a doing what feels good for yourself approach.
Accepting that you can fully thrive after experiencing any type of trauma.
How to start taking small steps to begin your recovery process.
