LIVE HEALTHY NOW - Episode 16

Powering into and through menopause

Watch.

It’s estimated that in the UK one third of females, that’s around 13 million people, are currently peri or menopausal.

Add onto this all of the people in these women’s lives who they spend their time with at home, work or socially and you have an enormous number of people who are coming into contact with menopause in some way.

“There’s a whole myth and belief that menopause is like the end and a lot of women see it as a very negative thing that happens to them. We’ve been brought up to dread the menopause because we think and believe it’s going to mean we become someone completely different, and our life’s at that point of a downward hill to the very end.”

— Nicola Mercer

“There’s so many examples out there right now of women thriving in their fifties or sixties, they’re really embracing life. There’s something so beautiful about this point of our lives when you get past that menopause. The freedom of being more mature, you get to shift your mindset into a woman who has experience of life.”

This week we’re diving deep into all things menopause with guest expert Dr Lisa Kwapniowski. We’re exploring the myths and beliefs that mean so many women fear this part of their lives and dread the menopause, thinking it’s the beginning of the end of their lives.

This is an important subject for anyone of any age. It’s not only a necessity that the topic of menopause is better understood by females, but that males too have awareness of it, and that everybody has more knowledge to make conversation around it normal.

In our conversation we’re exploring:

  • What perimenopause and menopause are.

  • Why we need to clear-up the mystery and myths about them.

  • The change in our bodies and the way we feel during the different stages of the menopause.

  • The importance of optimising your hormones to minimise symptoms and manage the changes during this season of your life.

  • The role of nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress at this stage of your life.

  • Opening up the conversation on menopause across men and women and why it should be included in the wellbeing strategies of businesses.

  • Taking a balanced approach to your health at every age and stage of your life.
