LIVE HEALTHY NOW - Episode 22

Changing your life: Just one step at a time

Watch.

The third episode in our February mini-series chatting with real people about their journeys to build a healthier lifestyle, is with our host Nicola's partner Kev Farndell.

Kev’s opening up about the self-doubt and imposter syndrome that held him back from happiness, and how he was an absolute beginner on his journey to building a healthy lifestyle only 18 months ago when he hit rock-bottom.

“Kev’s a perfect example of how taking care of yourself isn’t about being perfect and ticking every box. There’s not a recipe to being healthy, and that only when you do those things that equals health.”

— Nicola Mercer

“From where I was to where I am now has been quite transformative but it’s always been in the small steps. I think that’s the big thing.

I’m still on that journey of small steps. It’s small steps, and any small step you make, praise yourself for it - you weren’t there yesterday.”

—Kev Farndell

Struggling with physical health challenges including high blood pressure, and mental health problems, Kev was not in a good place. He shares how he started by building movement and community through golf, and was then able to regain some confidence to allow him to take further small steps to improve his overall health and happiness.

Kev’s story is one to inspire you that even when you have no idea about how to live any other way, you really can begin to create significant change just one step at a time, and by doing this, the ripple effects create a momentum that lifts you up and inspires you to take even more!

In the episode we share insights on:

  • The challenges men face opening up about their mental health.

  • The worry many people feel about sharing their struggles with someone else for fear of burdening them.

  • Imposter syndrome being very real for men too, and it not being limited to only your work or career.

  • Living healthy isn’t the result of being perfect or following a recipe for success.

  • The connection between the mind and body, and how this realisation has further driven Kev’s desire to feel healthier.

  • How small steps to change create ripples across your life building your self-worth and self-belief so that you want to make further changes to feel better.

  • The way your mindset shifts when you build habits that support your physical health.
