LIVE HEALTHY NOW - Episode 23

Changing your life: Making your health work for you

Watch.

The final episode in our February mini-series bringing you real people and their stories about building a healthy lifestyle is with good friend and Geordie food blogger Victoria Himsworth.

Victoria is sharing her journey of returning to taking care of herself following pregnancy and some very big life changes.

“Victoria is evidence of how you can live a very normal life, you can have a very busy life with your job, your family, a great hobby and still find ways to take care of yourself.”

— Nicola Mercer

“It’s about finding the balance to get the goals you want. I want to be healthy for Georgia and for her to see us go to the gym, eat well and meal prep.”

—Victoria Himsworth

Special guest and Geordie food blogger Victoria Himsworth

Victoria realised that in order to be able to cope with the demands of new family life, she had to put herself into the mix of her busy daily routine. For any new parent, life with a baby is demanding and often exhausting. As Victoria gave birth on the night the very first Covid lockdown was announced, she was flung into maternity leave and the first few months with a newborn in a way she’d never imagined. This extreme pressure was a challenge for her in lots of ways, but then the subsequent diagnosis of a rare form of cancer for her then 13 month old baby meant a return to normal life was put on hold yet again.

This story is one that shows how it’s easy to lose yourself when you’re hit with challenges, and that it’s very normal to let go of the healthy habits that now seem out of reach and irrelevant. But Victoria is testament to how step-by-step, you can begin to carve a new way forward, and build back habits that make you feel confident, strong and happy.

In the episode we talk about:

  • The challenges Covid and lockdown brought as a new parent and to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

  • How big changes in life quickly impact your overall health and wellbeing.

  • Finding one thing that supports your health the most, rather than throwing the towel in when life feels overwhelming.

  • Doing what works for you and how you want to feel to have balance over perfection.

  • Accepting it’s a journey of adjustment and finding new ways to fit healthy habits into your new life.

  • The importance of having something that drives and inspires you as part of your self-care.

  • The value in showing your children how to live a healthy lifestyle and including them from a young age in what you are doing.
