LIVE HEALTHY NOW - Episode 32

From Self-Doubt to Self-Compassion:

The power of managing your inner critic

Watch.

That voice you hear in your head is real and the most powerful voice you hear, yet for many of us, it’s the most critical voice we ever hear!

The way you support yourself has such a role to play in your health and wellbeing but is very overlooked when it comes to building a healthy lifestyle.

“Friday’s are a big day where I take that point in the week to reflect on what you’ve achieved and celebrate you because that’s the kind of steps and habits that if you build can strengthen those fundamental feelings like self-compassion and support, which all helps to build self-worth. ”

— Nicola Mercer

“We actually make much better decisions which are better for us long term when we are more self compassionate than we do when we are in that critic mode. That continual undermining that we do for ourselves has such a massive impact on wellbeing and health.”

In today’s episode MD turned entrepreneur Dr Kim Foster is sharing her experience of working in the Canadian healthcare system as a family doctor for over twenty years and the challenges of reactive health care. Dr Kim is a huge advocate for proactive health and offers so much on why we should be building a culture of healthy living at the heart of our families, communities and who we are, to help us all feel well and love the life we live.

Taking better care of yourself before you face a challenge with your health that means you have no other option than to take action is so vital, especially when we’re all living such fast paced lives and want to achieve so much from the one life we each have.

In this conversation we explore:

  • Why so many people struggle with self-compassion and are so hard on themselves.

  • The damage your inner critic can inflict on every part of your life.

  • The power that comes when you build self-compassion into your wellness toolbox.

  • Developing self-awareness as a key tool to build self-kindness, self-compassion, and self-encouragement.

  • Getting started with building stronger self-compassion and tips to become self-aware right now!

  • The role of social and human connection in the relationship we have with ourselves.

  • How the pandemic and changes coming out the other side are affecting our wellbeing.

  • Personality types and how important it is to understand yours without having to put a label on it.

  • Why introvert personality types can be so hard on themselves and the changing awareness of what being introvert means.
