LIVE HEALTHY NOW - Episode 36
Resilience, Cancer, and Resetting Your Life
Watch.
Are you in the camp of waiting until something goes wrong before having to give your health a thought?
Then you might want to give this episode a listen.
“I like the term ‘out-of-pocket’ because we hear people talk about this and approach it like it’s going to make them out-of-pocket. But is it taking something away from you, or has it given you potentially a much longer, healthier life? ”
— Nicola Mercer
“You cannot pour from an empty cup. When you take better care of yourself, you take care of everyone else better. And if you show up better, you feel better.”
— Casey Kang Head
It often takes something drastic or even life-threatening for either yourself or someone you love to face before you appreciate how valuable your health is. Because without your health, you have no life, no you even. It’s the number one thing that stands in our way of being able to do and feel the things we want in our lives.
For Casey Kang Head she faced this when she was diagnosed with cancer; not just once but three times. Casey lived a pretty healthy life prior to her first cancer diagnosis at the age of thirty one, but quickly realised how many of her habits were not ones that were helping her to live the full and vibrant life she wanted to live.
Casey and our host Nicola are totally aligned in not waiting until you face something catastrophic to realise your health matters. They want to help you have your penny-drop moment on why taking care of yourself is an investment that must be made not just for right now, but more importantly for the future you.
In our conversation we explore:
How Casey focused on just one thing to support her health through her first cancer diagnosis.
The mind body connection and the power of yoga to help you build this understanding.
Reducing anxiety through mind and body techniques.
Building resilience through the way you take care of yourself.
The power of moving your body and making this a part of who you are.
Applying a solution focused approach and why this comes natural to Casey.
Getting started with exercise and overcoming the mentality of not having enough time to build this into your life.
Finding ways to exercise that tick lots of wellbeing boxes.
