A June menopause special episode:
Unravelling the Perimenopause Puzzle
Watch.
This is the second of four special episodes in June sharing stories and insights into perimenopause and menopause and we’re sharing Rebecca Catterall’s story of perimenopause to help you to better support yourself as you journey through this huge and life-changing season of your life.
“Whether you’re perimenopausal now or not, the more healthy you are and the more awareness you’ve got about the lifestyle choices and habits you can have to help yourself though this season of your life the better you will navigate all of these changes and support yourself..”
— Nicola Mercer
“I think the more we can educate and inform ourselves and each other as women, the more we can find services that will help us. We need to be more open and talk about this stuff more, instead of shying away from the topic of women’s bodily functions and health.”
—Rebecca Catterall
Were you taught about menopause in school? How about by your Mother or other family member? What about as a grown woman?
Our society has deemed menopause a taboo topic, until very recently. This has led to the majority of women having very limited understanding about what the menopause is and what to expect - except for hot flushes, the beginning of the end of your life, and loss of fertility.
During June our podcast will focus on menopause, exploring the myths, fears, beliefs, experiences, and impact to real women. I know how crucial it is to help women of all ages understand what menopause is and how it will affect them, regardless of whether they experience symptoms like hot flushes or not.
Today’s guest is an incredibly brave, passionate, and determined woman. Rebecca Catterall is sharing her experience and story of navigating perimenopause. Her vulnerability is both humbling and inspiring. We know you’re going to resonate with so much in Rebecca’s story and learn so much from it to help you understand menopause better for yourself, or to support those you love.
In our conversation we explore:
What education has been like for women about menopause and perimenopause.
The definition of menopause and the importance of women being 100% clear on this.
Rebecca’s initial symptoms and triggers that prompted her to realise she was peri-menopausal.
The challenges she faced visiting her medical practice for advice and support.
How so many women are misdiagnosed and put onto a treatment path for other ailments, and the potential damage this can do physically and mentally.
The wide range of symptoms possible and how so many of these can be missed or attributed to other life stresses.
The mentality women have to “shut-up and put-up” leading to them suffering in silence with all aspects of their fertility and menstrual cycles.
The importance of being in control and equipped with good knowledge about menopause.
The impact to your mental health and why self-compassion and acceptance are key.
Learning to be aware of your body, mind, and tracking how you feel.
